Declaime, Madlib share new album, ‘In the Beginning (Vol 1)’

The LP compiles 13 previously unreleased tracks from 1993 to 1996.

Declaime and Madlib have dropped a joint album, In the Beginning (Vol 1).

The LP compiles 13 tracks that the duo recorded from 1993 to 1996, a period of time in which Declaime and Madlib lived across the street from each other. “I’m giving Otis Jackson his flowers now through this music we constructed as hungry young dudes,” Declaime explained in an interview with Consequence. “The Beat Konducta Sensei and the Poet Past The Weak will always be part of Oxnard’s musical history!”

Madlib recently collaborated with Logic on tracks for their MadGic project, and linked up with Four Tet for his album Sound Ancestors. He also unveiled a colossal 83-track deluxe edition of his 2014 joint album with Frebbie Gibbs, Piñata.

Declaime’s last album was Black Love and War, a full-length collaboration with Georgia Anne Muldow that spawned the tracks “Protect Yourself” and “PAL.”
