Cyhi the Prynce has survived a car crash caused after a shooter allegedly fired at him while he was driving on a highway.
On February 11, local police reported an accident near Hamilton E Holmes Drive in Atlanta involving an overturned Silver Bentley Bentayga. Officials later identified the driver as Cyhi, whose real name is Cydel Young.
According to the police, Cyhi claimed he was being tailed by a red car when he heard gunshots, causing him to lose control and swerve into another vehicle before crashing. Cyhi said he managed to climb out of the wreckage and hide in the nearby woods after he heard more gunfire, per CBS 46. Cyhi was later taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to treat injuries to his hand.
On Sunday (February 14), Cyhi recounted the harrowing incident on Instagram. The rapper claimed that someone had attempted to assassinate him and was “adament [sic] about taking me off this earth.” He wrote, “They were shooting at me while I was driving and even after my car flipped, hit a pole and crashed into a tree, they came back and shot the car up some more.
“At this point I don’t know if it was a mistaken identity, a robbery, or associated with something that I did when I was younger but I haven’t been in the streets in over a decade,” Cyhi continued. He also added that he couldn’t help but feel paranoid after the recent events, noting that many lives have been lost over music.
“I just want to let the people know who were trying to kill me that I am not a bad person. I don’t want revenge, I just want understanding and closure.” Read his full Instagram statement below:
Cyhi dropped his last album No Dope on Sundays in 2017. In 2019, the rapper revealed that he was working on several joint projects with fellow GOOD Music artist Kanye West, although none of them has materialized thus far. Last month, he teamed up with Tobe Nwigwe for “Pistol” which also featured Bun B.
