Compton rapper Buddy releases new track with A$AP Ferg

"Black" is a rallying cry for—and a celebration of—black America.

“I feel like Trayvon / With his black hoodie on / Huey P Newton / Black Revolution,” Buddy spits unapologetically on “Black.” And the rest of the track, released yesterday, continues that alternately celebratory, stirring, chest-thumping tone that makes the Compton rapper one to watch.

Buddy tapped A$AP Ferg for a feature and Jahaan Sweet on the beats. They contribute their own styles, but make no mistake: Even with his two, arguably more well-known, peers, “Black” is all Buddy. His rapid-fire flow and potent verses belie his 24 years of age, or, as one YouTube commenter put it, “This go crazy. Should’ve been on Black Panther!” ???

Buddy’s solo debut—“Black” is on it—is scheduled to drop in the summer.
