Cardi B has filed to trademark her popular catchphrase, “Okurrr.”
According to reports by The Blast, the Invasion of Privacy rapper is claiming legal ownership over the word as she plans to use it on merchandise, which will include “paper goods, like cups and posters, as well as a clothing line featuring pants, shirts, and hoodies.” The Blast also noted that Cardi applied to trademark “Okurr,” another spelling of her signature chirp.
However, the Grammy-winning rapper has faced criticism online as many have pointed out that she wasn’t the original creator of the catchphrase. Fans of Khloe Kardashian and RuPaul’s Drag Race claim that “Okurrr” was already in use long before Cardi made it famous.
In response to the backlash, the Bronx rap star took to Instagram stories to defend herself, saying that she’s just trying to “profit off this shit.”

“White people do it all the motherfucking time! So you’re going to be mad at me because I want to make some motherfucking money?” she said in the video. “Let me tell you something: While I’m here, I’m going to secure all the fucking bags.” Okurrr, Cardi!
