Cardi B hits back at rapper Dela Wesst’s plagiarism allegations

The social media star claimed Cardi stole her lyrics for “Clout.”

Cardi B has responded to plagiarism allegations from rising rapper Dela Wesst who claimed she “stole” their lyrics.

On June 30, Wesst posted a TikTok video that claimed Cardi ripped off her bars on “Clout,” a collaboration the latter released in April 2019 with her husband Offset. According to Wesst, Cardi’s verse was almost identical to her freestyle of Blueface’s “Thotiana,” which she uploaded to Instagram in February 2019. She also noted that Cardi’s verse included the same Oscar the Grouch reference that was featured in her freestyle.

“One day, I’m sitting by my window and I started getting phone calls [asking], ‘Did you listen to the remix? She stole your lyrics.’ And I was like, “What?’” Wesst reenacted in the video. “And sure enough, my kittens weren’t tripping. These are my lyrics to my ‘Thotiana’ freestyle.”

Cardi hit back with evidence that she wrote her “Clout” verse a month before Wesst released her “Thotiana” freestyle. “I WROTE THIS SONG IN JANUARRYYY !” Cardi tweeted, alongside a rough cut of “Clout.”

“You show me you did your clout song in January bitch you might have a chance. I rhyme clout with Oscar the grouch bitch is not farfech it RHYMES!”

Cardi added: “Sooooo stop WITH YOUR SHIT .Never Hurd about you b4 you started using my name for tic too .Stop chasing clout and chase a bag and a dentist like I DID SIS !”

But Wesst doubled down on her plagiarism allegations against Cardi. “Starting a record in January does not mean you finished that record in January. I clearly wrote this the day before you debuted it [on] the internet,” the social media star tweeted.

Cardi quickly debunked Wesst’s latest claims with even more evidence of “Clout” being written and recorded in January 2019. “jUsT cAUsE yOu sTArTED the song iN jAnUARy don’t mean you finished it THEN WTF IS THIS THEN BITCH !” the rapper wrote.

The Grammy-winning rapper continued: “You posted your lyrics on the other post it said February 6 my lyrics are from January 9th ..Goodbye sweety your DISTURB.Clout chase from somebody else.CLOWN now go do a video about THAT!”

The exhausting back-and-forth between the pair concluded with Cardi announcing that she was taking a hiatus from social media. “That was fun! …I’m getting off the internet for a couple days see ya when I see yaaa …..BYEEEETAAAAAAAA,” she tweeted.
