Cardi B defends Kylie Jenner cameo in “WAP” video

“Black, white, Latin, mix we all have WAPS!”

After breaking the internet with “WAP,” her hyper-raunchy collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B has defended her decision to include Kylie Jenner in its music video.

Some fans reacted in consternation to Jenner’s cameo halfway through the video, which concluded with more guest appearances by a number of female hip hop and R&B artists: Normani, Rosalía, Mulatto and others appeared.

In a series of tweets over the weekend—which have since been deleted—Cardi responded to writer Danielle Young’s comparison of Jenner and Normani’s cameos. “Normani did ALL this,” Young tweeted in reference to a clip of Normani’s dance moves in the video, “and Kylie walked down the hall and opened a door. If that’s not a perfect visual indication of Black women having to do the most and white women do the bare minimum to get somewhere, I don’t know what is.”

Cardi responded that Normani’s cameo corresponded to her talents as “one of the best female artist that dances.” “Not everything is about race,” she added in another tweet. “There’s issues out here in the world that it is about race that I preach all the time about. This is not about fuckin race.”

“Why did I put Kylie on my music video?” Bardi continued. “She treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid bday party. Travis and Set [Cardi’s husband Offset] are real close and Kris Jenner have [been] giving me advice on certain things I ask for and her husband real cool with mine.”

In a separate Instagram post on August 10, Cardi wished Jenner a happy birthday and thanked her for being in the “WAP” video. She added, “I wanted different type of bad bitches in my video. Black, white, Latin, mix we all have WAPS!”

She added, “Thank you always @krisjenner you always a call away for me and you treat me and mines like fam.” See it below:
