Saxophonist-rapper Caleb Giles has linked up with Pink Siifu for a soulful, vulnerable single, “Quicksand.” This track is the first release from Giles’ forthcoming Under the Shade project
Over an eclectic, jazzy production of glitchy drum beats and choppy vocal samples, Giles spits lines about heartache and despair. “Coins in the couch, drugs in the attic / Pain in his heart, love on the mattress,” he raps. Siifu joins in halfway through the track with a groovy verse of his own.
“The song to me is about hope,” Giles explained to the FADER. “Sometimes in life, it feels like you’re sinking into your circumstances. You have to be able to believe in something greater than your current circumstance in order to pull yourself out of it.”
