Busta Rhymes has made his long-awaited return with Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God.
The hefty 22-track record is the New York rapper’s first full-length release in eight years, and featured a star-studded line-up of guest artists. They include Kendrick Lamar, Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Rapsody, Rakim, Q-Tip and more, along with narration from comedian Chris Rock, who also helped Busta announce the album back in August.
The album also features Anderson .Paak on “YUUUU” and Vybz Kartel on “The Don & The Boss.” Both singles also received video treatments prior to the album’s release. Alongside the record’s release, Busta also dropped a CGI-heavy visual for “Czar.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Busta revealed that he had been recording Extinction Level Event 2 on-and-off for the past 11 years. “Finding that balance was a little challenging, especially when I’m trying to do things in a new and obscure way,” he explained. “It always has to have certain ingredients that separate it from everything else that’s going on.”
Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God is the follow-up to Busta’s 2012 album, Year of the Dragon. Last month, the rapper teamed up with Stevie Wonder, Rapsody, Chika and Cordae on “Can’t Put it in the Hands of Fate.”
