Black Eyed Peas rope in CL for “Dopeness”

What do you think of BEP’s return to boom bap, without Fergie?

Late last week, the Black Eyed Peas released a slick video for “Dopeness,” featuring CL of 2NE1.

In the clip, its monochrome color scheme interrupted only by shining gold accents, Will.I.Am., Taboo, and Apl.de.Ap collaborate with CL to pull off a heist. Not that they need the cash, really—everyone involved is already dressed to the nines and equipped with the best tech, whether it’s the getaway car or a smart watch.

Sound-wise, “Dopeness” is bound to perk the ears of those who best remember BEP for the pop-EDM-hip hop blend that made them radio mainstays—think “I Gotta Feeling” and “The Time (Dirty Bit).” It’s pulled from the freshly released album Masters of the Sun Vol 1, which is notably BEP’s first record in 18 years without Fergie, as well as a sharp steer back towards the boom bap style of rap that the trio cut their teeth on.
