Big Sean celebrated his 32nd birthday on Wednesday by releasing a trailer for the long-anticipated sequel to his 2012 mixtape, Detroit.
Simply titled Detroit 2, the forthcoming record is Big Sean’s fifth solo LP and his first offering in over three years. In the two-minute video, which previews snippets of new songs, the rapper returns to his Michigan hometown and gives a tour of his favorite local joints. “Detroit, to me is home. But I feel like it’s more than just a city, you know. It’s for real a mentality,” he says in the clip.
Elsewhere, the trailer gives a behind-the-scenes look at the album’s inspirations and recording process. “I’ve been going back listening to music that impacted me growing up. You know, songs I heard on the radio every day that I didn’t even realize was only popping in Detroit,” Big Sean says. The clip also features the emcee hanging out in the studio with Young Thug and A$AP Rocky.
On Twitter, Big Sean wrote that it “feels right” to release a follow-up to Detroit, though he did not confirm when the album is due out. Last year, the rapper dropped a handful of singles including “Bezerk,” “Overtime” and “Single Again” featuring Jhené Aiko and Ty Dolla $ign.
