At long last, Lil Wayne has dropped ‘Tha Carter V’

Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Travis Scott and more guest on the 23-song album.

Two weeks ago, it was announced that Lil Wayne was finally free to release Tha Carter V. And now, the long-awaited album is out.

The album, which comes seven years after Tha Carter IV and four years after it was initially expected, finds Weezy making up for lost time with a long tracklist and numerous features. Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Ashanti, the late XXXTentacion and others pop up across its 23 songs.

As hinted at by a recent Billboard profile of Lil Wayne, Tha Carter V is a heavy album. Wayne contends openly with childhood trauma and even begins the record with “I Love You Dwayne,” a voice recording of his mother professing, through tears, her pride and love for him. It’s a moving, fitting opening, considering the album’s cover art: an old photograph of Wayne and his mother.
