Anderson .Paak has unveiled his new, Timbaland-produced song “Jewelz.”
The California musician had first previewed the track on Instagram, when he posted a video of him and his son dancing to the song’s groovy beat. “I ain’t even put my jewels on / I ain’t even play my latest, greatest song / I ain’t even put my jewels on / Mm, had to make or break ’cause that ’lectric made to go,” .Paak sings on the catchy chorus, which was inspired by Timbaland’s son.
In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Anderson discussed what it was like working with his role model, Timbaland, on the song. “When I was making music, it was a handful of super producers that was around that you wanted to be like,” he said. “Timbaland, Neptunes, [Dr] Dre, Kanye… but it’s really dope to see someone like Timbaland that comes out of that era and that can still get the keyboard and mash out a beat right there on the spot.”
“Jewelz” follows .Paak’s collaboration with Rick Ross, “Cut Em in.” The singer also recently featured on Busta Rhymes’ “YUUUU.” Earlier this year, he reflected on the 2020 protests on the track “Lockdown,” which also got a remix by Noname, JID and Jay Rock.
