Tekashi 6ix9ine has agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors in their gang investigations, a decision that has incited mockery from some hip hop OGs.
The “Gummo” rapper has been behind bars since last November, after being indicted on firearms and racketeering conspiracy charges. Though he had previously pleaded not guilty, he changed his tune last week. According to TMZ and the New York Times, 6ix9ine pleaded guilty to nine counts in his federal case, including charges of racketeering conspiracy and drug trafficking.
With a minimum sentence of 47 years in prison looming, the rapper agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors in their investigations of New York’s Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, the gang he belonged to. A prosecutor, the NYT noted, said that if 6ix9ine cooperates successfully, the government will write to the judge seeking a sentence below the minimum.
The likes of Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent took to social media to mock what they saw as 6ix9ine’s clear agreement to snitch. Uncle Snoop was among the first to cast judgment, disapprovingly labeling the rapper a “rat” in an Instagram video:

50 Cent chimed in, too, with a meme that glibly—and jokingly—connected 21 Savage’s recent arrest by immigration authorities to 6ix9ine’s cooperation with prosecutors. His Instagram post, archived below by HotNewHipHop, has since been deleted.

More damning details about 6ix9ine—including his alleged abuse of his ex-girlfriend—are emerging as his legal troubles continue to unfold. According to TMZ, he is scheduled for sentencing on January 24, 2020.
