A 50 Cent-produced horror film is set to grace a cinema near you.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the rapper born Curtis Jackson recently inked a three-feature film deal under his production company, G-Unit Film & Television, with indie studio 3BlackDot and Arts District Entertainment, headed by horror filmmaker Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, The Green Inferno).
In a statement from Roth, the director said that the partnership will result in “movies others are too afraid to make.” “Both 50 and [3BlackDot’s James Frey] have never shied away from controversial, boundary-pushing material and have made massive global cultural impacts from their raw creative energy,” he said. “We want to bring that same fun and danger to this new fantastic slate of elevated scary films.”
Per THR, Jackson, Roth and 3BlackDot will all contribute to the three films, with the latter acting as the main financier. They also plan to turn their big screen projects into “experiences across video games, publishing and merchandise platforms.”
In his own statement, 50 said that he was excited to “take over the horror genre.” “I can’t wait to show the world what we’re building,” the rapper added.
50 is no stranger to the world of film and television, having directed and acted in several blockbusters. The rapper serves as an executive-producer for Starz’s long-running TV drama franchise, Power. He will also star and produce the upcoming action film, Den of Thieves 2, the sequel to Christian Gudegast’s 2018 movie Den of Thieves.
