ZHU, Tinashe team up for new collab, “Only”

It dropped alongside an abstract visual.

Electronic producer ZHU has teamed up with R&B singer-songwriter Tinashe for a new song, “Only.”

The song pairs ZHU’s mechanical vocals and Tinashe’s sultry pipes with warbling synths. “Looking for someone to love / You gon’ be my number one / I’m looking for someone to love / Waiting for somebody to love me,” both singers confess desperately on the chorus.

The accompanying video, directed by Jack Murgatroyd, focuses on ZHU and Tinashe, who are cooped up in their own office, isolated and locked away from the world—aptly reflecting the reality of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“The video nods to the current moment, that ubiquitous feeling of uncertainty and uneasiness,” Murgatroyd said in a press release. “This was our creative approach to exploring those emotions, our abstract way of trying to tap into our feelings of isolation and redundancy.”

“Only” follows ZHU’s 2019 single “Came for the Low,” which marked his debut release with Astralwerks/Universal Music Group. Tinashe, on the other hand, released her latest album Songs for You last year. The 15-track LP included songs such as “Save Room for Us,” “Hopscoth,” “Story Weather” and more.
