London-based producer TSHA has announced her new EP Flowers via the release of its lead single, “Sister.”
Flowers will be the musician’s first major release with Ninja Tune, and “Sister” is an entrancing first glimpse of the indie-electronic EP. It’s an uplifting club track laced with psychedelic quirks that manifest in the sporadic stuttering of samples and bright synth warbles—and it also has a startlingly personal backstory.
“I wrote ‘Sister’ during lockdown after finding out I had an older half-sister from my estranged father that she is also estranged from,” TSHA revealed in a statement. “We spoke on the phone and were texting each other in lockdown and we recently met for the first time. She’s lovely and we got on straight away, so I’m very happy to have a new member of my family as I’ve not had much of that in my life. The song is an expression of all of those feelings.”
“Sister” is the only solo track that will appear on Flowers. Ell Murphy, Gabrielle Aplin and Malian griot music group Trio Da Kali will appear separately on the three remaining tracks.
Flowers will arrive on October 16. Listen to “Sister” below:
