Chillwave pioneer Toro Y Moi and hip hop artist Rome Fortune might be from different ends of the musical spectrum, but they’re no strangers to each other. The long-time collaborators—they’d previously teamed up to deliver bangers like “Pitch Black” and “Long Days”—have now reunited to finally give fans what they want: a joint project.

Toro Y Rome Vol 1 hears Chaz Bear flexing his skills as a producer while Fortune injects quirky rhymes over his brand of bubblegum trap. “Let’s go, tippy-toe / Why you in the same spot / Used to worry all night, now I’m gonna be alright,” the Atlanta-based rapper sings on the opening track, “Alright.”

The end product, though, is a bubbly five-track mixtape that seamlessly blends rap and funk—perfect for your next “cookout” sesh, as Fortune states.
