Toro Y Moi has announced a new album, Outer Peace, and released video for its first single, “Freelance.”
The follow-up to 2017’s Boo Boo, Outer Peace is Chaz Bear’s seventh studio full-length under the multi-lingual moniker. The upcoming record, as noted by Spin, will feature the likes of indie pop trio Wet, R&B singer ABRA and Philadelphia-based electronic act Instupendo. In a recent tweet, the chillwave producer revealed that the album was two years in the making.
To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Bear also unveiled the first single off this new record. “Freelance,” which comes with a colorful Harry Israelson-directed video, is a groovy, laid-back jam that blends elements of disco, funk and house. “[The single] is definitely the best representation of the record,” Bear told Zane Lowe of Beat’s 1. “It’s kinda got like, a R&B, rap sorta cadence with my voice. And it also has this classic, funky Chaz sound.”
Outer Peace arrives January 18 via Carpark Records. You can pre-order your copy here.
