Keith Flint of English dance group The Prodigy has reportedly passed away. According to a social media statement from the band, he had taken his own life.
The vocalist was found dead in his Essex home on Monday, the BBC reports. The police confirmed that they had been “called to concerns for the welfare of a man” just after eight in the morning. “Sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene,” they said. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
“The news is true, I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend,” band member Liam Howlett wrote in a post on The Prodigy’s Instagram account. “I’m shell shocked , fuckin angry, confused and heart broken.”
Flint was a longtime member of The Prodigy, the electronic group that was founded in the ’90s and went on to become pioneers of the genre big beat. Its other prominent members are Howlett and Maxim. Flint started out primarily as a dancer, but also became a vocalist, most notably on their hit song, “Firestarter.”
