Overmono share new song “Pieces of 8”

The duo have a new 12-inch on the way.

British electronic duo Overmono have returned with new single “Pieces of 8,” their first release since their 2020 EP Everything U Need.

Built over a hypnotic rhythm, “Pieces of 8” is the A-side of an upcoming Overmono 12-inch. The pulsating track was first teased during their debut live performance some five years ago and has remained a staple of their sets ever since. Recently, “Pieces of 8” was played by Joy Orbison during his Grand Theft Auto radio show.

“We’ve wanted to do something with this track for ages,” the two-piece said of their new single on Instagram. “It was one of those ones people would always ask about after shows. We messed around with different versions for a few years until Joy Orbison asked to use it on his GTA station and we decided time had finally come for us to pull our finger out and finish it.”

Overmono’s Ed Russell revealed in a statement that “Echo Rush,” the as-yet-unreleased B-side, was “found on our laptop one day,” and that he had “no idea when we wrote it.”

Besides Everything U Need, last year the two producers also issued remixes of Thom Yorke’s “Not the News” and Rosalía’s “A Palé.”

The 12-inch pressing of “Pieces of 8” and “Echo Rush” will arrive on April 9 via XL Records. Listen to “Pieces of 8” here:
