Daniel Lopatin, the experimental producer known as Oneohtrix Point Never, has released his new album Magic Oneohtrix Point Never.
Lopatin teased the 17-track follow-up to his 2018 album Age of with a unique rollout strategy, dropping three songs as Drive Time Suite in September and five others as Midday Suite the month following.
The Weeknd—real name Abel Tesfaye—helped Lopatin pen the song “No Nightmares” and contributed vocals to the track alongside Chairlift co-founder Caroline Polachek. Tesfaye’s mark can be found across the rest of the album as well: He and Lopatin are both credited as executive producers on the record. The pair first collaborated on Tesfaye’s 2020 album After Hours, after both working on the Safdie brothers’ film Uncut Gems.
“It was obvious that he’s someone I can really rely on when it comes to honest feedback,” Lopatin told GQ of collaborating with Tesfaye. “I love his perspective because it’s so wildly different from how he’s in the world musically, and that means a lot to me.”
