Major Lazer have released a new track, “Make it Hot,” featuring Anitta.
The song’s a cluster of genres all interweaving into one, with reggaeton and hip hop sounds colliding over a moombahton beat. Noodling wind instrumentation serves as the heart of the verses as the Brazilian artist rhythmically chants her way towards the choruses, name-dropping Jennifer Lopez as she goes.
The EDM trio were excited to work with Anitta again after their 2017 collab “Sua Cara,” which was nominated for a Latin Grammy, Diplo told Zane Lowe of Beats 1. “She’s one of the biggest artists in Brazil and a breakout star, and someone unique like that is kind of the vibe for Major Lazer,” the producer explained, as EDM.com reports.
There’s been a lot happening in the Major Lazer world recently: In January, longtime member Jillionaire left the group, and earlier this month the trio released “Can’t Take it from Me.” It’s the lead single from their next album, which may be their final release, as Diplo told Complex last year.
