Major Lazer drop ‘Music is the Weapon,’ potentially their final album

Is this the electronic hitmakers’ swan song?

Diplo, Ape Drums and Walshy Fire have released their fourth album as Major Lazer, Music is the Weapon.

Music is the Weapon arrives after a lengthy road to release that started with “Can’t Take it From Me,” the Skip Marley collaboration that arrived last May. As is expected for Major Lazer, the trio enlisted an all-star cast of musicians to contribute to the record. J Balvin, El Alfa, Khalid, Anitta, BEAM, Marcus Mumford and Paloma Mami are just some of the many artists that appear across the LP’s 12 tracks.

This may be the final album to drop from the electronic music-meets-reggaeton project. The LP was meant to arrive last year, and in an interview with Complex from 2018, Diplo teased that “next year marks our [Major Lazer’s] last album, so we got a lot of stuff in between now and then.”

It’s still unclear whether Music is the Weapon will really be Major Lazer’s swan song, but with Diplo’s massive list of projects ranging from his own solo country project Thomas Wesley to LSD with Sia and Labrinth, it is easy to see why the producer may want to slow down a little.

To mark the release of their new album, Major Lazer have booked seven drive-in performances across the United States. The shows started last week and will wrap up in Charlotte, North Carolina on October 31.
