Loraine James announces new album with “Simple Stuff”

‘Reflection’ will arrive later this year via Hyperdub.

Producer Loraine James has announced her new album Reflection with the release of its lead single, “Simple Stuff.”

James builds on a fragmented beat for “Simple Stuff,” layering increasingly complex percussive elements and her hushed vocals across the track. The line “I like the simple stuff, you like the simple things—what does that bring to me?” becomes more disjointed and indecipherable as the song progresses. “The words for ‘Simple Stuff’ came very spontaneously but also reflects my immediate and current thoughts,” she shared in a statement.

James delivered the four-track EP Nothing last year. It followed her breakthrough sophomore album For You and I in 2019. In 2020, James also performed at Adult Swim’s annual music festival alongside Kaytranada, Thundercat and Tycho. She also launched a monthly show on NTS radio and remixed a number of artists ranging from Australia’s Gordi to Canada’s Jessy Lanza.
