Jlin drops zany Adult Swim single, “No Name”

The footwork producer’s third contribution to the series.

Television network Adult Swim pride themselves on releasing exclusive singles from cutting-edge artists, the latest being “No Name” by footwork maestro Jlin. It’s the producer’s third contribution to the Adult Swim Singles series, after 2016’s “Downtown” and 2017’s “ICU.”

“No Name” is an auditory overload of futuristic sounds, an experience Jlin fans have come to expect from the producer. But it also expands upon her existing sonic palate: Sporadic pulses of percussion remain a staple, but on “No Name,” they feel uniquely synthetic compared to that of previous singles. The track is crowded with different sections, and finds its strongest moment just before the two-minute mark as Jlin really homes in on her new sonic direction.

According to a press release, “No Name” teases the release of Jlin’s third full-length studio album, the follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed Black Origami. And though it was light on details, the press release did hint at “new collaborations,” SPIN reported.
