James Blake shares new track, “Are You Even Real?”

A breathless love song, co-written with pop songwriters.

James Blake has released a new song, “Are You Even Real?”

In the dreamy track, a starry-eyed Blake is captivated by his partner, who he breathlessly calls “queen of queens.” He sings, “All I can do is trust in her / Late nights I can see the lust in her / Acid rain is a first for her / Skies open up, share a cup with her.”

The English artist produced “Are You Even Real?” himself, and co-wrote it with pop songwriters Starrah (who’s worked with Drake, Rihanna and Maroon 5) and Ali Tamposi (Kelly Clarkson, Camila Cabello), as well as violinist Peter Lee Johnson. “It is experimental for me to make Pop,” Blake remarked on Twitter shortly after the release of the song.

“Are You Even Real?” follows Blake’s April release, “You’re Too Precious.” He released his last studio album, Assume Form, in January 2019. That record included “Mile High” featuring Travis Scott and “Barefoot in the Park” featuring Rosalía.
