Irish producer For Those I Love has released his self-titled debut album.
On his maiden release, For Those I Love—real name David Balfe—honors his childhood friend and former bandmate Paul Curran, who took his life in 2018. For Those I Love is born from love, loss and Balfe’s appreciation for the family and friends that supported him as he picked up the pieces.
“The love I wrote in these songs for Paul has never died, and I don’t think it ever will,” the producer wrote in an emotional Instagram post. “I see your picture and hear your words every day and I still feel that love grow. I said it years ago. Paul, for me, you are endless.”
Balfe cherry-picked nine songs from a sizable pool of over 75 tracks to create For Those I Love, mixing memories and poetry over post-rave production that evokes the work of Burial and Jamie xx. He dedicates a number of tracks to spoken word confessionals about his upbringing alongside Curran and the heart-wrenching loss he experienced after he was gone.
