Hudson Mohawke delights fans with release of “Black Cherry”

He’s finally released the mystery track from the game ‘FIFA 20.’

Shortly after unveiling a collaboration with Tiga, Scottish producer Hudson Mohawke has gifted fans another song: the solo track “Black Cherry.”

The track initially appeared in last year’s installment of the FIFA soccer video game series, FIFA 20. It also played in a car commercial for the Honda Jazz Crosstar, leaving fans demanding a release for the song they had been referring to as “Been Like Me.”

The producer acknowledged fan demand for the song, saying on Twitter he had “been getting hassled for this for ages so here yous go.” He also announced the launch of his Bandcamp page, which currently hosts “Black Cherry” and his collaboration with Tiga, “Love Minus Zero.”

“Black Cherry,” in part, borrows its sound from HudMo’s recently rebooted TNGHT project, layering atmospheric, bright synth stabs over a thick, percussive bed of sound. TNGHT—a collaborative project between Mohawke and Canadian producer Lunice—dropped their second EP in November last year. That project TNGHT II featured the tracks “Serpent,” “Dollaz,” “First Body” and “Gimme Sumn.”

“Black Cherry” is the third track from Hudson Mohawke following his Tiga collaboration and “Bent” featuring Jimmy Edgars. Aside from his own releases, Mohawke recently produced Banks’ 2019 single “Gimme” and Christina Aguilera’s 2018 track “Maria.”
