Hear The Brothers Macklovitch rework Portrait’s “I Can Call You”

A-Trak and Chromeo’s Dave 1 drop another smooth tune.

A-Trak and Chromeo’s Dave 1—aka The Brothers Macklovitch—have released a funk cover of Portrait’s 1995 single “I Can Call You.”

It’s a fun, light-hearted second release from the duo burgeoning with summer vibes that contrasts with the vocal quartet’s original R&B version. That doesn’t mean that the sound has changed entirely, however—the uptempo cover riffs on the sound of the ’90s via record scratches courtesy of A-Trak.

“I Can Call You” follows The Brothers Macklovitch’s original track “Give Love to Get Some” featuring Dutch R&B star Leven Kali and their preceding remix of Raphael Saadiq’s “So Ready.” The new project from the real-life brothers is inspired by their shared love and experience of crate-digging in record stores throughout the ’90s to find acid jazz and funk records.
