Hear The Avalanches’ remix of “Criminals” by DMA’S

A lo-fi melancholic take on the indie-rock cut.

Electronic duo The Avalanches have released a remix of “Criminals,” a track which appears on fellow Aussies DMA’S’ latest album, The Glow.

Spacey synths and deep crinkly sounds are aplenty on Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi’s rework, which transforms the upbeat indie-rock cut into a lo-fi melancholic jam. “It was a real pleasure to be asked to remix DMA’S,” Chater said in a press statement. “Awesome melodies, awesome talent, awesome energy, I listen to them all the time. It was really nice to be given free reign and to let loose with some free-flowing old-school Since I Left You vibes on this remix.”

The “Criminals” remix comes after a slew of releases from The Avalanches this year, who announced their grand return with the Blood Orange-assisted “We Will Always Love You.” They later dropped the songs “Running Red Lights,” “Wherever You Go” and “Reflecting Light,” all of which are expected to feature on their first album in four years. The as-yet-untitled record is expected to drop later in the year.
