Jlin has remixed “C’est parce que j’m’en fous” by Marie Davidson’s trio L’Œil Nu.
The producer’s amped-up rework is the first of several remixes of tracks from the 2020 L’Œil Nu album Renegade Breakdown. Others contributing remixes include Amsterdam’s Young Marco and Morgan Geist (also known as Storm Queen), per Pitchfork.
In a statement, Davidson thanked Jlin for a “killer” remix, saying, “We’ve all been appreciators of Jlin’s work in the band, and it’s a huge honor to have her remixing our music. ‘C’est parce que ’m’en fous’ is a track that talks about the concepts of femininity and feminism as opposed to calculated feminism, and I could not have wished for a better remixer.”
Davidson and her L’Œil Nu bandmates—Pierre Guerineau and Asaël R Robitaille—have also announced a one-off livestream of their first-ever live performance. The band have called Renegade Breakdown Live, which was shot by experimental Quebecois filmmaker Denis Côté, “as eerie and honest as it can get.”
“For the concept, I imagined the performance as a laboratory experiment,” Côté said. “Without completely turning my back on the festive aspects, I favored something a little colder, which leads to a certain purity of the act of watching a concert.” Get tickets to the March 11 stream here, and stream the Jlin remix below:
