English electronic duo the Chemical Brothers have returned with new single “The Darkness That You Fear.”
After kickstarting big beat in the early ’90s alongside the Prodigy and Fatboy Slim, the Chemical Brothers maintained a steady run of albums, the latest being 2019’s No Geography. Now, they’ve released “The Darkness That You Fear,” which member Tom Rowlands has described as “a hopeful piece of music.”
“When we found the combination of the different voices worked set to the flow of the music, it made us feel optimistic—like it was something we wanted to share,” he said.
No Geography featured the tracks “Eve of Destruction,” “We’ve Got to Try” and “Got to Keep on.” Last year, they contributed a song to CARE4LIFE, a benefit compilation for the UK’s National Health Service.
“The Darkness That You Fear” also got a joyful visual treatment by director Ruffmercy, who combined archival footage of raves from the ’90s with hand painted Super 8 film textures and hand drawn animation. Watch it below:
