Apparat (real name Sascha Ring) has released the transcendent “Dawan,” the first single off his forthcoming solo album, LP5.
The ten-track record is the German musician’s first solo release in six years—since that time, he’s put out two albums as part of the trio Moderat. “Having a huge stage with Moderat gave me a setting for grand gestures and meant I could unburden Apparat from these aspirations,” he said in a statement. “I don’t have to write big pop hymns here; I can just immerse myself in the details and the structures.”
And true to his description, “Dawan” swells and subsides at will, forming a gorgeously dynamic soundscape that incorporates orchestral elements, guitar, drums and more. It’s an enticing first glimpse of LP5, which was developed over the course of group improvisations and orchestral sessions.
