Four Tet releases new albums, ‘Parallel’ and ‘871’

The producer is ending the year with a massive double release.

Four Tet—aka Kieran Hebden—is ending 2020 on a high note with the release of two new surprise albums: Parallel and 871.

The albums arrived as a Christmas present for fans mere hours after the producer announced the dual release on social media. Parallel is available on all major streaming services, whereas the more elusive 871 appears exclusively on the producer’s Bandcamp.

The latter serves as an exposition of the producer’s formative era. As detailed on Bandcamp, 871 features early compositions written by Hebden between August 1995 and January 1997.

At the start of 2020, Hebden released his Sixteen Oceans album in March and later revived his unpronounceable, symbol-filled alias with a four-track EP. Earlier this month, the producer teamed up with Madlib for “Road of the Lonely,” a cut from their upcoming joint release, Sound Ancestors.

According to Hebden, the album was put together after a constant exchange of “tracks, loops, ideas and experiments” between the producer and the rapper. Sound Ancestors is penciled in for a January 2021 release via Madlib Invazion.
