Exciting news has emerged from the Disclosure camp: The duo have announced their new album Energy by releasing its title track.
The last time Disclosure released an album, they scored a range of chart-topping positions with 2015’s Caracal. Since then, the British brothers have focused on a smaller run of three EPs, including February’s Ecstasy, in the lead-up to their third album. The bouncing, eclectic “Energy” is crammed with sonic textures, including the speeches of self-professed hip hop preacher Eric Thomas.
Disclosure sampled Thomas’ speeches on the opening of their 2013 debut record, Settle. “When we found Eric many years ago, he was like a goldmine of inspirational quotes and motivational speeches,” the duo said in a statement.
“Even if he was speaking to a room of five, it was like he was addressing a stadium. He has an immense presence and energy about him that translates so well into music—especially house music. This time, we cut up various speeches to make something that makes sense. What he says is basically the whole concept for the record, that’s why it became the title track.”
Their new song arrived with a quirky music video from directors Glenn Michael & Christo, who previously worked with Big Sean, French Montana and Drake. As for the album, Energy is set to feature the likes of Mick Jenkins, Common, Kelis, Kehlani, Channel Tres, Aminé and slowthai across 11 tracks.
Disclosure’s new LP will be released on August 28 via Capitol Records. Watch the video for “Energy” here:
