Diplo pivots to country with “So Long,” featuring Cam

Meet Thomas Wesley.

Diplo has dropped the track, “So Long” featuring country singer Cam, his first project under the moniker Thomas Wesley—that is, his real first and middle names.

The song blends staple country sounds, like the fiddle and banjo, with EDM beats and keyboard chords for an eclectic crossover tune. Cam ties it all together with her strong yet gentle vocals, singing of unrequited love: “I know you’re fine doing life on your own / But that doesn’t mean you should spend it alone.”

“[The upcoming releases are] kinda like country, but I’m adding some of my flavor to make it unusual,” Diplo told Variety back in February. “It’s actually a hard thing to get some of these guys to take a chance, because country’s such an insular community, but I’m trying to do something a little bit different with the songwriting.”

The producer previously tried his hand at house music as part of the duo Silk City with Mark Ronson, and on the solo tracks “Hold You Tight” and “Bubble Up.”
