Zac Brown Band return to the spotlight with an intense music video for their EDM-influenced single, “Someone I Used to Know.”
Besides an unexpected and definitely NSFW opening scene, the MV deals with war veterans and post-traumatic stress disorder. The video follows the life of a high school footballer who enlists in the military, gets deployed overseas and returns home with PTSD.
Brown only appears at the end of the clip in a brief interview, explaining the meaning of the song. “Pain and depression doesn’t discriminate,” he says. “This song is me facing that part of myself, of where I want to go and not where I’ve been.”
Written in collaboration with Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes, “Someone I Used to Know” marks brown’s official return to EDM, which he had been experimenting with under the moniker Sir Rosevelt.
