Willie Nelson releases his 70th studio album, ‘First Rose of Spring’

The living legend remains prolific.

Country music icon and living legend Willie Nelson has shared his brand-new album, First Rose of Spring—the 70th studio full-length he has released to date.

The 11-song project contains primarily covers, though it includes two original songs, “Blue Star” and “Love Just Laughed,” both of which were written by Nelson and his longtime collaborator/producer Buddy Cannon.

On Saturday, July 4, Nelson hosted his annual Fourth of July Picnic, which featured live performances from Sheryl Crow, Steve Earle, Kinky Friedman, Ziggy Marley, his son Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real and more. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the concert was broadcast on Nelson’s SiriusXM radio channel, Willie’s Roadhouse.

Nelson first previewed the new album with its title track in February, with initial plans for an April 24 release. The release was eventually delayed to July 3 because of the pandemic. First Rose of Spring follows the country singer’s 2019 record Ride Me Back Home, which won a Grammy award for Best Country Solo Performance for its title track earlier this year.
