Last night, ABC aired the annual CMA Country Christmas special, which featured Reba McEntire performing a stripped-down cover of Dolly Parton’s “Hard Candy Christmas.”
The performance, recorded earlier in September at the Belmont University’s Curb Event Center in Nashville, is McEntire at her finest. The 63-year-old singer—who also played host at this year’s concert—served on-point vocals, belting over a melancholic piano arrangement played by Catherine Marx. McEntire even added a dash of her country twang to make the song her own.
The show’s line-up also included performances from other country favorites such as Dan + Shay, Brad Paisley and Martina McBride.
