Margo Price has shared a moving music video for “Hey Child,” the track from That’s How Rumors Get Started co-written by her husband Jeremy Ivey.
Directed by Kimberly Stuckwisch, the video stars Price as she negotiates a bleak downward spiral. It’s inspired by a dark time in Price’s life, when she and Ivey turned to substance abuse and other unhealthy coping mechanisms to bury the pain of losing their son Ezra, who passed away just two weeks after he was born.
“The song was about how many of our talented friends were drinking and partying their talents away, but after a few years had passed, we realized it was just as much about us as our friends,” Price shared of “Hey Child” in a statement. “I had retired it when [her band Buffalo Clover] broke up but Sturgill Simpson resurrected it when he asked me if I would re-record it for That’s How Rumors Get Started.”
In addition to sharing the video, Price has announced her first show for a live audience since the COVID-19 pandemic first reared its head. The concert will take place at Pelham, Tennessee’s Caverns Above Ground Amphitheater on May 28 with Ivey as the opening act. Price will also tour with Chris Stapleton across the United States on his All-American Road Show tour through April and June.
That’s How Rumors Get Started, which was produced by Simpson, also features “Stone Me,” “Twinkle Twinkle” and “Letting Me Down.” In December, Price shared a live cover of Joni Mitchell’s Christmas song “River.”
