Watch Margo Price cover Joni Mitchell’s “River”

A poignant rendition of the melancholic Christmas tune.

Margo Price has released a beautiful cover of Joni Mitchell’s melancholic Christmas song “River.”

Led by a delicately updated rendition of “Jingle Bells” as per Mitchell’s 1971 Blue take, Price’s cover of “River” layers her emotional vocals over soft keys. It was released as a live performance, tracked at Nashville’s illustrious Pulse Studios, a few months after Price first debuted the cover at a Planned Parenthood benefit.

According to the singer, her cover of “River” was recorded as “a message of peace and love for the rest of the year, and the hope for 2021 to be everything 2020 wasn’t.”

A few nights ago, Price hosted the premiere of her concert film Perfectly Imperfect at the Ryman at Tennessee’s Stardust Drive-In Theatre. It had previously been released as an 11-track album exclusive on Bandcamp for COVID-19 relief.

Price’s third studio album That’s How Rumors Get Started arrived in July. It featured the tracks “Letting Me Down,” “Twinkle Twinkle” and “Stone Me.”
