Watch Ashley McBryde perform “Martha Divine” on ‘Ellen’

The ‘Ellen’ appearance was a “bucket list moment” for the singer.

Ashley McBryde recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to perform her rollicking Never Will single “Martha Divine.”

McBryde’s Ellen performance was backed by LED screens rendering minimal green visuals as her band ripped into the guitar-heavy single. Following her appearance, McBryde commented on YouTube that gracing DeGeneres’ stage was a “bucket list moment.”

Despite the sweet-sounding title, “Martha Divine” is a dark murder fantasy. McBryde sings of a daughter’s fury as she considers murdering her father’s mistress. “Martha Divine, put your hands on the wrong damn man this time / Jezebel, you’re bound for Hell / But evidently, the devil was busy so I moved you up in line, Martha Divine,” she declares.

McBryde’s sophomore album, Never Will arrived in April last year, and also featured the tracks “One Night Standards” and “Hang in There Girl.” Now, the LP has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Album.
