Outlaw country legend Tanya Tucker has returned with While I’m Livin’, her first album of original material in 17 years.

Co-produced by Brandi Carlile and Shooter Jennings, While I’m Livin’ is a charming ten-track country album overflowing with energy and wisdom. On “Rich,” Tucker muses about the true meaning of wealth: “My daddy took me bar to bar / To get me where I am today / People said I was poor / But I was rich in another way.”

“I Don’t Owe You Anything” may impress with its jaunty fingerpicking, but the track really shines as a showcase of Tucker’s irrepressible personality. “Well, it’s a long walk down the hallway / But it’s a short drive to the bank / Ain’t it a bitch learnin’ the hard way? / It might be easier than you think,” she sings.

“It’s a musical biography of sorts, about Tanya’s real life and the places she’s seen, and it’s narrated by the greatest country and western singer this side of Johnny Cash,” Carlile said in a press release, who co-wrote a large part of the record with her bandmates.
