Sturgill Simpson returns with “The Dead Don’t Die”

The song is his first release in over three years.

Sturgill Simpson has released “The Dead Don’t Die,” his first new song in over three years.

The singer returns to his old-school country roots on the twangy track, which is soaked in swaying pedal steel, fiddle and piano chords. “Hearts break when loved ones journey on / At the thought that they’re now forever gone / So we tell ourselves they’re all still around us all the time / Gone but not forgotten, just memories left behind,” he croons.

“The Dead Don’t Die” also doubles as the theme song for the recently released Jim Jarmusch film of the same name. The Dead Don’t Die, which is in cinemas now, stars Bill Murray, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton and more.
