Here’s a pairing no one saw coming: Bluegrass outfit Steep Canyon Rangers have collaborated with R&B group Boyz II Men on a stirring rendition of “Be Still Moses.”

Boyz II Men bring their buttery harmonies and soulful adlibs to the gospel tune which was originally released on Steep Canyon Rangers’ 2007 album Lovin’ Pretty Women. The rework also features instrumental accompaniment from North Carolina’s Asheville Symphony, who hail from the bluegrass band’s hometown.

“It’s just so gratifying to have a group like Boyz II Men, which has so much success in their own right, on this,” Steep Canyon Rangers’ banjo player Graham Sharp told Billboard. “You can tell they put their minds and they put their hearts into it. Without that, it wouldn’t have gotten anywhere.”

The new version of “Be Still Moses” will feature on Steep Canyon Rangers’ forthcoming as-yet-untitled orchestral album. The record is set to arrive sometime next year via Yep Roc Records.
