Shovels & Rope drop “Mississippi Nuthin’” and “Carry Me Home”

The double release is a taste of their upcoming LP, ‘By Blood.’

Husband-and-wife duo Shovels & Rope are back with the double release of “Mississippi Nuthin’” and “Carry Me Home,” a glimpse of their upcoming studio album, By Blood.

The two tracks are a preview of the forthcoming LP’s musical diversity. “Mississippi Nuthin’” is a foot-stomping, drum-driven rock romp that tells the tale of two high schoolers whose lives take opposite turns. On the other hand, “Carry Me Home” is an introspective, piano-driven song that examines an unhealthy relationship.

“We were able to make this record between tour stops, so we had the chance to work out the music on tour a little bit and get it into the studio after it had some exercise,” Cary Ann Hearst told Billboard. “A lot of times in the past we’d written songs and got them on a record before they ever got workshopped in a live setting, so it really helped to get them in shape.”
