Ryan Bingham honors Billy Joe Shaver with “Live Forever” cover

Also a tribute to Jerry Jeff Walker.

Ryan Bingham has shared a cover of Billy Joe Shaver’s “Live Forever” as a tribute to the recently deceased Shaver and Jerry Jeff Walker.

Shaver died on October 28 from a stroke at the age of 81, while Walker passed away just a few days prior on October 23 from throat cancer.

Bingham, who is also a cast member on the drama series Yellowstone, took time out from his filming schedule to record a rustic cover of Shaver’s 1993 song “Live Forever,” sharing it on Instagram yesterday.

Recorded amongst nature with a stunning mountain rising high above a wooden cabin as the backdrop, Bingham’s moving cover was as an unofficial installment of his Cantina Sessions pandemic video series, which has yielded original performances and covers of iconic tracks such as John Lennon’s “Imagine” and Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”

“Lost a few more of my heroes over the past couple of weeks. This one is for Billy Joe and Jerry Jeff… ‘Just like the songs you leave behind you, you’re gonna live forever now,’” the singer shared, paraphrasing one of the song’s more poignant lines.

Bingham released his latest studio album American Love Song in 2019. Since then, Bingham has been busy filming a new season of Yellowstone in Montana alongside Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes and Kelly Reilly.
