Rhett Miller has announced a new solo record, The Messenger, and shared a song off it, “Total Disaster.”

The Old 97’s frontman is in characteristically wry territory on this track, on which he explains just how he’s a total and complete mess. “If you choose to stay by my side / You gotta get that I got flaws / Feel free to leave any time / Lord knows I will give you cause,” he sings to a would-be companion.

The self-deprecating lyrics come with some lovely guitar work and hip-swaying hooks. Here’s hoping there’ll be more of the same on The Messenger, which is out November 9 on ATO Records.
