Maggie Rose has announced her third album Have a Seat with the new single “Do it.”
Rose settles into a funk-loaded R&B groove atop a peppy rhythm section on “Do it” as a bright brass section fills in the remaining space. It’s a vibrant, upbeat track fueled by love and respect—two of the key feelings that Rose focused on when writing Have a Seat.
According to the singer, the record focuses on inclusivity, its title serving as a directive for its listeners to sit down and communicate with one another. “The lyrics began pouring out as we were fueled by our convictions,” Rose recalled in a statement of how the new single came together. “I remember jotting down lyrics as fast as I could and singing loudly and confidently before having really settled on a structure because where it was going simply felt right. When we brought it into the studio a few months later…it felt like a celebration.”
“Do it” and the rest of the album was recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Rose was joined in the studio by returning collaborators Them Vibes, guitarist Will McFarlane and the Swampers’ bassist David Hood. The only major guest appearance on the album comes in the form of Marcus King, who will feature on “What Makes You Tick.”
Have a Seat, the follow-up to 2018’s Change the Whole Thing, will be released on August 20. Listen to “Do it” below:
