Maddie & Tae prepare comeback single, “Friends Don’t”

And they’re giving fans a first taste of the new track with a live recording.

Maddie & Tae have had quite the bumpy ride towards new music. After releasing their super successful debut album Start Here in 2015, the dynamic duo—full names Madison Marlow and Taylor Dye—were all set to follow up with their second LP.

Until their label shut down.

Fast-forward a few years and the girls have a new label in Mercury Nashville, and, now, some new music to go with it.

“Friends Don’t,” which will officially drop on April 27, looks set to be a ‘will they or won’t they?’ anthem for the country crowd, spinning a tale of a relationship about to blossom into something more than friends. “Friends don’t call you in the middle of the night / Couldn’t even tell you why / They just felt like saying, ‘Hi,’” the duo sing in typically perfect harmony.
